This is definately not one of those common aspects amongst the human species of the twenty first century.
Living simple has with time become a long gone visitor especially with the ushering in of technology, high standard of living, and materialwealth.
People tend to attach more meaning to these artificial fulfillments at the expense of who they are and miss out on the natural flow of life.
I know to some, i sound like am speaking in tongues but hey, show me somebody not doing simple and i will show you somebody thinking, “what the hell is she talking about?” Yes, that is acceptable. Why? Because 80% of those that have ditched living simple do not have the slightest know of how much they have migrated from simple to complex.
Okay, let us go back to the days when all life could grant you in communication technology was that basic telephone that could only be used to make calls, send and recieve messages. Then, you had not to worry about credit to buy daily, monthly, or anual data, re-charge your battery after twelve hours or keep in pace with all the revolving applications in the app store.
You know you were just contented then till technology brought you that smart phone and society told you it was a must have at all costs inorder to fit in the trend. And what you do not realise now is how much you miss visiting your friends and family instead of whatsapping them that picture showing how much you have grown, how you have forgotten the excitment of going to the photo studio with your loved ones, thanks to that soft copy that convices you about the irrelevance of the traditional door to door camera man. Such is one of the ways we have come to believe that we are complete and lost our real selves under the umbrella of ‘we have it all’ simply because we have a duplicate alternative for every original way of life.
Have you taken time to wonder why you have that laptop with a web cam, that desktop computer, the 3.5mega pixel phone camera, let alone you still find the desire to own that digital camera? (And bytheway, you want the latest of all in the market). Now, does it occur to you that you can go about a month without making use of that webcam or digital camera, because your 3.5megapixel phone camera is always in hand and does all that the later could do? Do you realise that all you are doing is accumlate these things society says you need, yet you can still be you and sound with only the basics and not all the must haves of these racing ‘tech-trends’.
What is technology if it only creates a vaccum in our daily lives? Why technology if it is only moulding us into mute creatures sharing some space on earth?
I say, let us like technology and not love it, use it but not be used by it and finally embrace it but not be engulfed by it. Because, man becoming a puppet to a product of the human brain is like feeding on one’s own excrete.
